You can read this easily, brightness is good in sunlight, the value is great and its a nice tool to get your BBQ done perfectly. As far as durability goes, IDK. So, how many meat thermometers have you bought? I must have 4 or five. They are all in the trash, sorry that’s wasteful. Great features. The point is closed so you need to open the tip to use it. That turns it on. Ingenious. You don’t have to worry that you didn’t turn it off. You naturally will close it when you are finished using it. There is a guide on the side that tells you what temperature to bring your meat to have it just like you want it. it also works with liquids. It is instant read so you don’t have to wait for it to come to temperature. The only thing I had issue with was mine reads in Centigrade rather than Fahrenheit. But just press that button and it will give you Fahrenheit. Easy to clean but don’t submerse it in water. Makes a great gift. I gave my son and sister each one of these as a stocking stuffer. They both really like theirs too.

The display on this thing is terrible, even with the light on. It’s just faded and hard to see, and you have to get down really close at just the right angle to read it clearly. That said, it’s very accurate. It’s easy to use; just unfold the probe and it turns on, but it always defaults to Celsius, so I have to hit the F button, not the end of the world… It’s not instant read. It gets close, then over the course of 5 or 10 seconds, it continues to adjust while the probe absorbs heat. For me, reading water temp for my pour over coffee, it’s fine. For meat or fish when time is of the essence, you don’t want to sit there and wait for the number to catch up, knowing that it’ll now rise a few degrees higher than that even after it’s removed from the grill. For the price it’s wonderful, but a good instant-read is also worth the higher price. Get what you pay for.
