Here’s my detailed review of the THERMOS FUNTAINER Water Bottle after thoroughly testing it with my kids.

**Pros:**

Bought this Thermos water bottle for my little one to take to school. He loves the Cars characters printed on it. The cup is a good size for little hands, has a nice handle for them to carry easily and the button to open the lid is easy to use. It keeps drinks cold for hours. Easy to wash because the opening is big. I’ve had other insulated cups that had a really small opening and it made cleaning harder. Straw is easy to remove to wash as well. Graphics on this cup seem to be applied well and haven’t started scratching off like other brand cups we have used. I like that it has a rubbery bottom to prevent from scratching, slipping off the table, and I even think it might protect the cup a bit if a child drops it (as they always do). Quality cup from Thermos!

Super easy to take apart and clean. There are no little useless plastic bits like other bottles that hide bacteria and mold and are a pain in the butt to clean…. Withstands the dishwasher and doesn’t peel. Looks nice, compact, and keeps the warmth/coldness for a long while. Does not leak. Very happy with purchase, will be purchasing more soon.

This is one of three “straw cups” we use in regular rotation with my kid. The straw is easy for my 1.5 year old to drink from (diameter is not too thick or too skinny, and there is no cross section or bite valve that restricts water flow). I like that the straw mouthpiece is soft, flexible, and doesn’t protrude too far from the lid, and that part can get pushed out of the lid and the straw detached for relatively easy cleaning. The mouthpiece does have an angle in that can be a bit tricky to get clean, and if your kiddo gets any food or dirt into the lock on the lid there isn’t an easy way to clean it out. There is also a small air vent hole that allows a considerable amount of water to leak out if put down on its side without the lid secured (or if your toddler purposely holds it upside down). With the lid secured it is leakproof.

I prefer silicone, stainless steel, or glass for my toddler for health reasons purchased this because the bottle is stainless but the length of the straw itself is an unknown hard plastic (not silicone like I thought it would be, so I was a bit bummed by that). The mouthpiece is silicone and a good firmness – not too hard or soft. The bottle is durable and withstands constant drops from my toddler but it is quite heavy, even completely empty, so toes and dogs cleaning up dropped food under high chairs be warned. My kiddo has managed to pinch his fingers in the handle a few times – the handle is small and swivels freely on top, so sometimes it squishes a finger or gets in the way of accessing the mouthpiece. My kid has no trouble holding it, carrying it, or bringing it to his mouth to drink and has learned how to push the lock open and shut the lid on his own. Overall I think the design is pretty good, but due to the weight and size it is probably more appropriate for older toddlers (2+) than younger or smaller ones. The 12 oz size is quite versatile – it’s small enough that it’s not obscenely large to use for a one year old and fits well in a diaper bag without taking a ton of space, but holds ample water for a morning or afternoon out and can grow with your child for some time.

I’m still on the lookout for the perfect straw cup, but this is close to the best I have found and the price is reasonable so we ordered a second. My first one came with name labels inside making it great for daycare or group playdates but the second one didn’t.
