I have five pair of Allbirds but this is the first pair for my son. Some of my Allbirds have been worn for years and still look great. We live in a northern state and I have found the wool sneakers are more comfortable and cozy in fall / winter than canvas sneakers. Another big plus is that they are machine washable! The style is classic. Yes, Allbirds have a higher pricepoint than most, but they are topnotch in style and quality. My downgrade to 4-stars is that they are flat soled with little to no arch support. So if you have a wonky back or knees and need a little more cushioning these may not be be for you. Again, I’m a big Allbirds fan and my son really likes these shoes.

I bought these shoes for my husband for our anniversary and he loves them! He wears them often and even though he is between sizes (10.5), the size 10 has broken in nicely as the canvas stretches. They are stylish but seem more elevated than most sneakers, so they go with many kinds of pants. I ordered these in the black color way and after a day at the cider mill, there isn’t a scuff or mark you can see!

Allbirds shoes are, I think, something of a status symbol. However, they have become that because they offer appearance, quality, and comfort appreciated by fashion-conscious individuals for whom price isn’t a major issue.

The pliant Merino wool uppers makes these shoes both soft and lightweight. However, the wool uppers also mean that if you flex your toes, the impressions of the toes will be visible, which is a little unusual in a shoe. Obviously, you should not expect these to wear as long as a quality leather shoe, but long wear isn’t the design objective, fashion and comfort are.

The materials and construction both appear to be high quality, but of course (especially in the natural white with white soles that I ordered), they may become visibly soiled rather quickly. I’m sort of reminded of the “white buck” shoes popularized by Pat Boone back in the 1950s and ’60’s. The ad on the Amazon page says they are washable, so that might alleviate that concern. However, doesn’t wool shrink when it’s washed?

I have size 14 feet, so that’s the size I ordered. Unfortunately, the actual size of Allbirds’ “14” is probably no more than 13 1/2, so these are a bit tight in length for me. If you wear anything less than a 14, you might consider ordering a size larger than the size you normally wear. Sadly, since 14 is the largest size offered, I couldn’t do that.

In short, I recommend these for fashion-conscious men whose feet are shorter than size 14, if price is not a big issue.

According to Allbirds their shoes are unisex, you just adjust the size up or down as needed for the length, but the width and cut are the same for men and women. I say this because these are listed as men’s shoes, but I am a woman and ordered them in one full size smaller than my usual size, and they are perfect! I love them, they are so comfortable. Wore them around all day running errands, then walked the dog, worked in the kitchen making dinner/cleaning up etc, over 10 hours on the first day and they were very comfortable without any issues of needing to break them in etc. I have a small tailor’s bunion/ bunionette and it was not at all irritated or sore even by the end of the day. The heel tab comes up just right so they don’t slip on my heel but don’t rub either, and they have a good amount of cushioning (though not a lot of extra arch support if you need that – I wear a lot of converse and flats so I’m used to it except in running shoes). Our weather has been quite warm lately but even though these are wool my feet didn’t get too hot or feel sweaty in them (they say they are temperature regulating, I guess they’re right). The color “true black” isn’t quite accurate in my opinion, although the online pics look like a true black shoe with gray-black laces, there’s a slightly blue/purple tint, more obvious in the laces but also slightly in the shoe as well when compared to my black clothing items. They still have a great retro look and the color looks good, I just feel it’s worth mentioning that it’s not really true black. Anyway other than that I totally love these shoes, I can tell they will be my go-to pair a lot of days. And the materials are eco-friendly, as the cherry on top. I highly recommend these shoes!

I have a friend that swears by these so I decided to give them a try. I didn’t quite understand why I would want wool sneakers, but after wearing them, I get it. They keep my feet warm but breathe really well as well. They are quite comfortable and look nice with jeans. I imagine that they will do OK, but not great in the rain and they definitely seem like they will do well in the cold.

The arch support is not high and not flat-footed, somewhere in the middle. They are slightly narrower than average I would say. So, if you have wide feet or a very high arch, they might not be for you. Otherwise, I’m sold on All Birds.

I never had a wool sneaker before, and thought it would be nice to have as the weather starts to get cold. I normally wear a 9.5-10 3e (very wide) depending on the shoe, and I sized up to an 11 for these. Most “D” width shoes fit me fairly well in an 11. Out of the box they are pretty snug width wise, though they seem fine length wise. I am hoping that they break in a bit after use and get more comfortable – the wool should stretch a bit. I wish there were more sizing options including a wide with, as I really love the look of these. I would definitely side up if you are in between sizes or have a wide foot. On a side not, they are actually pretty comfortable without socks, and while still too narrow, fit better that way. The insole has a soft fabric on it versus the rubbery insoles you usually see in sneakers, so I am thinking that this is probably a popular option. They have a nice feel when walking in them. Also, they are machine washable which should be interesting to try at some point. I have personally never had much luck in washing anything made of Merino Wool, such as sicks or sweaters. I’m guessing these will need to be air dried for best results.
